Vizquel deal; Red Sox rumors; Pirates; Rockies

Journeymen SS Omar Vizquel is close to a one year deal with the White Sox. Vizquel hit .266 in 195 plate appearance for the Rangers. The great thing about this deal for the White Sox is the temporary versatility he can bring by playing multiple positions in the infield.

The Red Sox have added Rick Ankiel, Adrian Beltre, Rich Harden, Cody Ross, and possibly Ben Sheets to their wish list writes Gordon Eades and Peter Gammons. Ross was believed to be going to Boston this past season, but they wouldn't send reliever Manny Delcarmen to them. Be on the look-out for Marco Scutaro at SS if the Sox can't get A-Gon back. The Red Sox claimed Robert Manuel off waivers from the M's. Manuel made his debut last season with the Reds and M's posting a 2.88ERA.

The hapless Pirates claimed reliever Chris Jakubauskas off the Mariners. The Pirates designated Jeff Karstens for assignment to make room for him. Jakubauskas posted a 5.32ERA last season.

The Rockies signed catcher Paul Phillips to a minor league deal. The Rox are interested in bringing back Yorvit Torrealba back.

Reds OF Laynce Nix has elected to test the FA waters. Nix hit .239 with 15 HRs and 46 RBIs last season.
